The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) will hold a Risk Communication and Community Engagement Workshop on July 13, 14 and 15, in which various hospitals and ministries participate. Risk communication expert Ljubica Latinovic, who will provide the workshop, paid an introductory visit to Minister Amar Ramadhin.
She has briefly indicated the purpose of this workshop and will discuss this with all the authorities in the coming days.
The objectives of this workshop:
- Build understanding of the role and components of risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) for public health emergency preparedness and response, with a special focus on respiratory viruses.
- Provide tools and skills to effectively use RCCE to communicate and engage with affected communities in a timely and effective manner during health crises.
- Start discussions on the roadmap for strengthening the national RCCE system for emergency preparedness and response.
Minister Ramadhin is grateful to PAHO/WHO for the technical support and is convinced. that the workshop should lead to increasing our technical capabilities in the field of risk communication in Suriname.
Much has been learned from the Covid pandemic and Suriname must be prepared for future pandemics or disease outbreaks, according to the Ministry of Health.
