Rumors Say Nikon Will Stop Production of SLR Cameras

Nikkei Asia published a rather lengthy report on the subject of Nikon’s SLR camera obituaries. The publication notes that since the release of the Nikon D6 SLR, no new SLR models have been launched. This is about 2 years lag of Nikon SLR cameras.

Mirrorless cameras are slowly becoming more and more popular, while digital SLRs (DLSRs) are getting further away from year to year. By 2021, as many as 3.1 million kamera mirrorless shipped and that’s 1 million more than a DSLR.-

Nikon then wrote a news clarification related to the rumours. In a brief paragraph, Nikon refutes this theory. “This media article is only speculation and Nikon has made no announcements regarding this matter. Nikon continues to produce, sell, and service digital SLRs,” Nikon said as quoted from the website. Slash Gear, Wednesday (13/7/2022).

While it doesn’t address why there haven’t been any new DSLR camera releases since 2020, Nikon makes things very clear, not planning to discontinue the technology just yet.
