More money for handling staff at Düsseldorf Airport

DÜSSELDORF (dpa-AFX) – Large parts of the handling staff at Düsseldorf Airport will receive significantly more money in the future. After brief negotiations, the Verdi union and the ground handling service providers Aviapartner and Acciona have agreed on wage increases above inflation for employees, as the union announced on Tuesday.

The collective agreement with the handling company Acciona therefore provides for wage increases of between 10 and 18 percent from August 1, 2022 with a term until June 30, 2023. The starting wage will be EUR 13.08 per hour in the future.

According to Verdi, wages at the second major ground handling service provider Aviapartner at the Düsseldorf location will increase by 8.2 to 14.8 percent from July 1, 2022, with the collective agreement running until June 30, 2023. The starting wage will be EUR 13.34 in the future.

“Despite high inflation, there is a significant increase in real wages for employees,” said Verdi negotiator Marvin Reschinsky. Collective bargaining with the third handling company, Aviation Handling Services Düsseldorf GmbH (AHS), will begin in the course of the month. Among other things, Verdi is demanding holiday and Christmas bonuses, longer breaks, increases in surcharges and travel allowances.

More than 1,600 people are employed in passenger and baggage handling at Düsseldorf Airport. With the exception of the Swiss company Airline Assistance Switzerland AG (AAS), all major handling companies at the location are bound by tariffs.
