South Korean Ambassador to the United States Cho Tae-yong met with US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman yesterday.
At the end of this exchange which took place at the headquarters of the State Department in Washington, the South Korean ambassador posted a message on Facebook confirming that the discussion covered various issues, in particular concerning the alliance. Seoul-Washington and the North Korean nuclear issue.
According to the former deputy foreign minister, the American undersecretary, who is the first female undersecretary in the State Department, is a political figure who has been involved for years in issues on the Korean peninsula, and this already since her functions as coordinator of North Korean policy and undersecretary of state for political affairs, among others.
Cho affirmed his desire to maintain close communication with US officials with the aim of developing a comprehensive strategic alliance capable of reacting quickly to new challenges of the 21st century. He also offered his condolences on the same day by going to the funeral altar of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, installed at the Japanese Embassy in the United States.
As a reminder, on July 6, Cho received the new United States Ambassador to South Korea, Philip Goldberg, officially appointed on July 10. On this occasion, the two diplomats affirmed their determination to work together so that the alliance of the two countries can be further strengthened.
