The University of Lille plans, for the start of the 2023 academic year, a solidarity plan of one million euros for its students. We detail the three types of “helping hands” offered: summer, digital and back to school.
Promoting autonomy and success in studies, this is the objective pursued by the University of Lille, which is proposing a new solidarity plan for its students. With a total amount of one million euros, this aid aims to provide a one-off response to the financial difficulties of certain students. 4 500 of them are concerned this year by at least one aid, which is divided into three “thumbs up“ : summer, digital and back-to-school, in order to target various student profiles.
This month, 100 euros will be donated to 1 200 students benefiting from the Solidarity and Development Fund for Social Action Student Initiatives (FSDIE), which supports cultural, civic or sports projects. “The idea is that they can afford a little break“, says Emmanuelle Jourdan-Chartier, Vice-President Student and Campus Life. For example by buying books or tickets for a festival or a concert.
In 2021-2022, 345 students were granted a computer free of charge. These same students will receive a check for 400 euros to equip themselves with their own computer. The Vice-President of Student and Campus Life insists on the need for such a measure for students in geography or computer science, who “must run specific software“. The free computers will be distributed to new students in need.
Since the transition from high school to university brings its share of expenses, “back to school checks” will be offered to students in the first year of the license. “This is the priority of the establishment. We must help them before they fail. We come to support so that they are not overtaken by the difficulties and that they approach the start of the new school year in more serene conditions.“, emphasizes Emmanuelle Jourdan-Chartier.
3 000 young people whose reference tax income is less than 12 500 euros will thus benefit from an aid of 250 euros, distributed during the student life immersion days (JIVE), at the start of the school year in September. A measure that concerns all financially fragile students, identified by the University of Lille : scholarship holders and non-scholarship holders, but also internationals. With this multi-brand check, they will be able to equip themselves with supplies, furniture, household appliances or clothing.
The overall objective of the University ? “To be in continuity with the solidarity plans put in place regularly since the pandemic, which has accentuated the fragility of students“explains Emmanuelle Jourdan-Chartier. It should be noted that every fortnight, a social assistance commission is offered to the 80 000 students at the University each year.
