NEW YORK – The New York area anticipates a batch of possible severe storms arriving in our region this Tuesday.

The threat of severe thunderstorms could bring torrential rain and high winds to a large swath of the region as a cold front approaches.

The entire tri-state area is in the possible severe weather zone, although the risk is greatest north and west of New York City, according to the latest forecast.

It will be hotter and more humid Tuesday (around 91 degrees for a high) than Monday (85 degrees and comfortable), which should fuel atmospheric instability and increase the potential for severe weather. Check severe weather alerts here.

The weather remains warm on Wednesday, with highs expected to exceed 90 degrees again in the New York City area. Temperatures drop back into the low 80s on Thursday and should drop to the more seasonal mid-80s on Friday before climbing back up ahead of what at this point looks to be another warm and mostly sunny weekend.
