Kirel, 21, has already scored several number 1 hits in Israel and has won the MTV Europe Music Award for best Israeli artist four times. She was chosen after an internal selection by a committee of a total of nine experts.
That was different for this year’s Eurovision song contest in Turin. Then Israel selected the candidate of the Eurovision song contest through the program The X Factor Israel† Michael Ben David won that program, allowing him to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest. He then got stuck in the semifinals. In 2018 Netta won by also being selected through a talent show, but after that successful year it became doom and gloom for the Israelis.
Nothing is yet known about the song with which the singer participates in the Eurovision Song Contest. The location of the 67th edition of the song festival has also yet to be determined. The tradition is that the winning country takes on the organization of the next edition, but the European Broadcasting Union decided that the song contest cannot take place in Ukraine in 2023 due to the ongoing war with Russia. Great Britain has now come into the picture as a possible organizer and talks are underway with the BBC. Glasgow seems favorite as host city.
