Despite his recent Wimbledon title, Novak Djokovic has slipped further in the world rankings than he has in almost four years.
The Serb dropped from third to seventh place because no ranking points were awarded at the major tournament due to the exclusion against Russian and Belarusian professionals. Djokovic lost the 2,000 points for his win last year.
One of the beneficiaries of the scheme is Daniil Medvedev, of all people, who remained at the top. The Russian continues to lead in front of the currently injured German Alexander Zverev. The new third is the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who was unable to compete in the semi-finals at Wimbledon due to an injury. Djokovic’s final opponent Nick Kyrgios lost five places, the Australian is now 45. Dominic Thiem improved marginally with his first round victory in the Salzburg Challenger, the former number 3 is now 339 as the seventh best Austrian.
Da Roger Federer Since Wimbledon 2021 has not played a tournament for a year, the Swiss has not appeared in the world rankings for the first time in a long time. Federer was first ranked in September 1997 and later led the ranking 310 weeks later.
The women who were successful in Wimbledon did not benefit either. The sensational winner Jelena Rybakina remains number 23, her final opponent Ons Jabeur dropped from second to fifth place. The Pole Iga Swiatek is still superior at the top.
