To achieve this, CMC Telecom, which is a CMC Technology Group company, has invested heavily in building a network of data centers, thereby helping to modernize the nation’s digital infrastructure.
The Digital Hub is a place for storing and processing big data from the world’s leading technology companies. It enables data transfer and at the same time provides services. The Digital Hub is not only a local data processing system but also a regional or even global ecosystem.
For Dang Tung Son, deputy general manager of CMC Telecom, Vietnam is preparing to become a digital hub of Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific. The ongoing institutional and legal development should indeed enable companies to invest more in digital technologies.
“Significant changes have taken place. The information and communication infrastructure development plan for 2025, with a vision for 2030, has been approved. Vietnam has prepared the necessary infrastructure for the development of e-commerce. Telecommunications infrastructures have been converted into digital infrastructures. If before, we talked about the development of information technologies, today, we talk about digital transformation. Additionally, Vietnam is now on a list of 22 countries with a local data center (AWS Local Zone), which was published by Amazon Web Services. However, many ASEAN countries are not on this list.“, he indicated.
Thanks to the government’s strategic guidance, CMC Telecom, the only foreign-owned telecommunications company in Vietnam, has invested heavily to expand its connection network. Currently, CMC Telecom owns the CVCS (Cross Vietnam Cable System) backbone network, the first Vietnamese cable network to have a connection throughout Southeast Asia. This network connects directly to 5 international submarine cable networks: AAE1, APG, A-Grid, Unity and Faster. CMC Telecom is also one of the first 3 companies in the world to have obtained the MEF 3.0 certificate – a certificate that confirms its ability to provide Ethernet, the best connection service in the world.
So far, CMC Telecom has three independent data centers. They are the first data centers in Vietnam to have the right to provide PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) payment security certificate. These data centers are operated by a team of experts and well-trained technicians who have obtained international certificates such as CDCE, CDCS, CDCP, or even CDFOM.
In early 2022, CMC Telecom commissioned the Tân Thuân data center in Ho Chi Minh City, which meets Uptime Tier III standards. Covering an area of 10,000 m², this center provides 1200 racks, with a capacity of up to 20kw/rack (A data center rack is a type of physical steel and electronic frame designed to house servers, peripherals network, cables and other data center IT equipment). In May 2022, the Tân Thuân data center obtained the TCCF certificate (Tier Certification of Constructed Facility) issued by the Uptime Institute. With this certificate, it has become the most modern and secure data center in Vietnam.

CMC Telecom intends to conquer the international market. The company is focusing on improving the skills of its staff and the quality of its services to meet international standards, as stated by its deputy general manager Dang Tung Son.
“Setting up a digital hub requires a concrete roadmap. CMC Telecom has defined a roadmap to create by 2025 data centers with a power of 40 Megawatts that can meet international standards for information security. They will be open and independent data centers so that our customers can have more choice.”he explained.
To succeed in Industry 4.0, Vietnam must acquire high-performance digital infrastructures. According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Phan Tam, “Products designed in Vietnam and made in Vietnam” is a major policy of the Vietnamese government to encourage innovation at the time of the 4e industrial Revolution. What CMC Telecom has done demonstrates Vietnam’s determination to achieve technological independence.
“Developing digital technology products Make in Vietnam enables Vietnamese companies to master technology and catch up with world powers in researching, developing and applying new digital technologies. This will help our country achieve technological independence and position itself in the value chain of the world.”he said.
Founded in 2008, CMC Telecom aims to become a leading provider of digital services in the world. But it has an even more ambitious goal today: to cooperate with the biggest technology companies in the world to make Vietnam a digital hub of Asia, next to Hong Kong or Singapore.
