conflicting ideas on convenience, some aspects to consider

2022 will be remembered as the year of photovoltaics, especially domestic or balcony. Small but just as effective.

Especially used for those who do not have gardens or terraces, balcony photovoltaics are useful for both efficiency and savings.

But beware of permissions to request it because they are different between those who live in a condominium and those in a single-family or single-family home. Among other things, the balcony photovoltaic could be a solution that allows you to save on your bill and, considering the times, why not take advantage of the opportunity and buy one. Maybe this kit for less than 70 euros that is populating on the net.

Balcony photovoltaics: this long-term offer is not convenient according to a survey by Altroconsumo

Enel Energia proposes theofferta Enel X Sun Plug&Play which promises savings of 25% on bills. The kit includes:

  • the installation of a 0.34 kWp photovoltaic module with a rated power of 300 Wp;
  • a Zucchetti micro inverter with integrated monitoring system;
  • support structure supplied by Enel X equipped with railing bracket.

The panel can produce 400 kWh per year. But it is an optimistic projection and bound to some conditions, such as:

  • southern exposure;
  • optimal inclination of the panel;
  • the shade of trees or other buildings;
  • efficiency of the panel and inverter.

If two panels are used, the energy production would be double, covering 25% of the annual domestic consumption. This is usually 2700 kWh. But the return on investment could be higher than that expected for the purchase of a single panel.

Using other solar panels, the system would no longer be domestic but ‘classic’ with higher costs and conditions.

What does Enel X offer

The Enel X offer includes a discount on the invoice in accordance with current legislation. This would give the customer the opportunity to take advantage of building renovation and recovery interventions with a 50% deduction. In this way, he will only have to bear the costs of the portion not covered by the incentive.

Furthermore, if the customer also adheres to theLongbonus Electricity / Gas offer from Enel Energiawill be able to benefit from an additional bonus in the bill of 5 euros per month up to 600 euros over 10 years.

Therefore, the Enel X Sun Plug & Play offer would cost 324,50 euro for self installation. Calling a technician to figure they would go added at least 115 euros for installation. In the latter case, you are also entitled to liability insurance for any damage. Valid for 5 years.

Photovoltaic from the balcony does not convince Altroconsumo: “the offer is not entirely convenient”

Installing a photovoltaic balcony with the Enel X offer is not really advantageous. In fact, it promises to save 25% on the cost of energy through a photovoltaic panel to be installed on your balcony.

Instead, according to Altroconsumo, the offer is advantageous if you become a customer of Enel Energia (and, therefore, sign a contract for a supply of electricity and gas) as the reimbursement of the panel is total and therefore the total cost is zero.

By becoming an Enel Energia customer you have savings, but if the customer wants to withdraw from the contract, he or she will lose the monthly bonus of 5 euros.

Furthermore, according to a survey carried out by the consumer association, the Longbonus Light / Gas offer is not among the most convenient. In fact, considering a consumption of 1,900 kWh per year for two people and a consumption of 3,180 kWh for a family of four, the annual expenditure would be above the average and more expensive than other similar offers. Indeed, by 30%.

Same considerations for gas consumption because the average annual cost would be 20% more expensive.

Among other things, the Electricity Authority has specific rules for balcony photovoltaics because the power must not exceed 800W.

Finally, the customer will have no remuneration for the excess electricity produced and fed into the grid if not consumed. Negative aspect considering that it is not possible to self-consume it completely.

What is self-consumption?

We talk about self-consumption when after having produced the energy from the solar panel this is then used immediately if we use a vacuum cleaner or some electronic device.

The energy produced but not used returns to the electricity grid. The ratio between the energy used and that fed into the grid is defined as the percentage of self-consumption.

In Italy it is estimated that the average domestic self-consumption is 30%. The Enel X Sun Plug & Play photovoltaic system could be up to 50% with a saving of about 200kWh per year on the bill. That is, around 60 euros per year.

The economic savings would start from the sixth year and would be effective. However, if the percentage were lower, the savings would be less than 40 euros with an economic return of at least 10 years.

Therefore, according to Altroconsumo, the savings from this offer would not be as advantageous as estimated by Enel Energia. Considering also the cost of the inverter which has a shorter life than that of the panel and which will entail additional expenses to continue using the photovoltaic balcony.
