JAKARTA – Toilet is equipment that has the main use as a place to dispose of waste, namely urine and feces. Toilets are also known as latrines, toilets, latrines, or WC (English water closet).
Quoted from Mental Floss, Monday (11/7/2022), initially the toilet was only in the house or other immovable places.
However, now toilets are also available in public transportation modes such as buses, trains, and airplanes.
In airplanes, the function of the toilet is very important. The reason is, this mode of air transportation does not have a stopover for passengers to defecate.
Therefore, there is no choice but to use the toilet on the plane. However, does the airplane toilet work the same as the one at home?
Airplane toilets don’t rely on a water tank to do the suction and draw waste like a home toilet system works.
This is, considering the enormous cost of transporting hundreds of gallons of water.
This cramped airplane toilet facility originally used an electronic pump that moved waste along with a deodorizing liquid called anotec.
However, later this method was no longer used due to considerations of fuel costs and the increase in aircraft weight.
In the 1980s, planes used a pneumatic vacuum to suck liquids and solids down. When the flush button is pressed, the valve at the bottom of the toilet opens so it sucks the contents out into a closed drain system.
The pan-like nonstick coating moved to the storage tank near the rear of the aircraft at high speed.
After the plane lands, the tanks are cleaned and rinsed with disinfectant.
