A huge fire broke out in the eastern districts of Rome. The situation is under control and so far no one has been injured, BNR reported.
The fire started in a car morgue, affecting the archaeological park of Centocele. Multiple explosions followed.
The dense cloud of smoke that formed covered the sky in different areas of Rome – from Cinecita to the Appio district, as well as in the center.
There was and is smoke in the area of Circo Massimo, where the concert of the group “Maneskin” in front of 70,000 spectators was about to take place.
Citizens were asked to close the windows of their homes and not go outside, and some of them were evacuated. Strong winds hampered the work of more than 100 firefighters, and 50 fire engines were used to extinguish the fire.
This is the fourth fire in Rome in less than a month. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri called them “accidents impressive in sequence” that put Rome and Romans “to the test”.
“We are constantly monitoring the situation and we still don’t know if they are episodes of criminal origin or just negligence,” he clarified on social networks.
