NY Takes Action at Concert Venues to Prevent Buying Alcohol with Fake ID – NBC New York

New York has started an initiative to prevent under-21s from buying alcohol with fake IDs during summer concert season. With this, police inspections will be carried out in some concert venues throughout the state.

Customers under the age of 21 who are caught using fake or someone else’s ID to buy alcohol can be fined and have their licenses revoked for a minimum of 90 days or up to a year.

The initiative comes with investigators from the Department of Motor Vehicles, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Friday, through the effort known as Operation Prevent.

This effort also includes investigators from the State Liquor Authority, State Police, State Park Police and local Police.

Enforcement inspections will be carried out Operation Prevent at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre, Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, CMAC in Canandaigua, and Lakeview Amphitheater in Syracuse, as well as other places where minor attendees are likely to gather.

The Operation Prevent It has the support of the Governor’s Highway Safety Committee. The committee coordinates traffic safety activities in New York and awards federal traffic safety grant funds to local, state, and nonprofit agencies for projects that improve traffic safety and reduce fatalities and serious injuries from crashes.
