4.1 earthquake felt south of Stuttgart to Switzerland

Authorities in the state of Baden-Württemberg have confirmed that there was a 4.1 magnitude earthquake near Hechingen in the Zollernalb district on Saturday afternoon. The earthquakes were felt as far away as Switzerland.

#Erdbeben is a trending topic on German-speaking Twitter. Several users who experienced the earthquake reported from the state capital of Stuttgart. Some weren’t sure if it was actually an earthquake because it didn’t last very long.

The police headquarters in Reutlingen recorded calls from concerned citizens who wanted to inquire with the police. Hours after the earthquake, there were reports of cracks in some buildings.

The Swiss Seismological Center at ETH Zurich classified the tremors at 1:47 p.m. even higher – namely at a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale. And the geologists assume that the earthquake was felt throughout Switzerland.
