Dr. Catalina Pírez, pediatrician, infectologist and grade 5 professor at the Faculty of Medicine, warned that “there had been kids between 5 and 11 who had to be vaccinated” against the Covid-19 to be more protected from suffering from chronic pathologies that, in case of contracting the coronavirus, could cause them to develop serious forms of the disease.

Pírez referred to Judge Alejandro Recarey’s ruling that suspended anticovid vaccination in children under 13 years of age and assured that nothing like this happened anywhere in the world.
–
“No country in the world has stopped vaccinating children, Uruguay is the only country in the world where this has happened,” he lamented.
–
“The vaccine really protects them, those who are vaccinated get sick less and those who are not vaccinated go to the CTI more,” he warned, referring to the risk that not receiving the Covid vaccine implies for some children.
Regarding the adverse effects of the vaccine, Pírez assures that “they were mild, as in most countries.”
