Elena Rybakina make history by winning Wimbledon 2022. The Kazakh national tennis player beat Ons Jabeur in the finals.

Rybakina and Jabeur both played their first grand slam final at Wimbledon 2022. In the match on Center Court, Saturday (9/7/2022), Rybakina beat Jabeur in a three-set duel with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 .

Rybakina became the first Kazakh national to win a grand slam in singles. The Russian-born tennis player changed citizenship to Kazakhstan in 2018.

“I didn’t expect to get to the second week. So winning here is amazing,” said Rybakina as reported by Guardian.

“I wouldn’t be here without my team of course, so I want to thank them. And most importantly my parents,” said the 23-year-old.

After Jabeur won the first set, the momentum shifted at the beginning of the second set. In fact, Jabeur made a lot of mistakes in the first game so Rybakina broke his serve.

Seeing the opponent starting to falter, Rybakina grew even more excited. Rybakina grew more envious while Jabeur struggled to get his game out.

Rybakina started the third game with a 2-0 advantage after breaking Jabeur’s serve. With a fast serve as one of the mainstay weapons, Rybakina continued to maintain his advantage including saving himself from break points to lock up the victory.
