Toyota bZ4X: Expected to be Norway’s best-selling

Toyota bZ4X is the brand’s first all-electric passenger car, which is also built on a dedicated electric car platform.

The SUV places itself in a tough class, and will compete against models such as Volkswagen ID.4, Ford Mustang Mach-e and Tesla Model Y – to name a few.

Thousands of Norwegians have ordered. It was expected to be one of Norway’s best-selling cars. Maybe even this year’s bestseller.

The plan was for the deliveries to start this summer. That’s not how it will be.

Recall

The background is a recall for all bZ4Xs in North America, Europe and Asia. Globally, about 2,700 cars are covered. The recall takes place after a challenge has been identified with the wheel bolts.

– Toyota puts customer safety first and foremost, and we therefore withhold all the cars involved until the problem is resolved. In Norway, there are a total of 461 cars that have already been produced. There are only a few demonstration cars out at dealers who have received signs so far. We have control over these, and they will not be used until further notice, says information manager Espen Olsen in Toyota Norway.

Toyota has chosen a completely new design for the interior.

Waiting for clarification

– We are now working to find the cause and a solution to the problem, and we are still waiting for a clarification from Toyota Central. Unfortunately, delays in the delivery of bZ4X to customers must be expected in the future, and Toyota dealers will continuously contact each individual customer who has ordered the car as soon as more information is available, says Olsen.

The new bZ4X is available with both two- and four-wheel drive.

With front-wheel drive, the car starts at 411,400 kroner. For 4×4, the starting price is 438,500 kroner. The latter has a new four-wheel drive system that uses individual electric motors on the front and rear axles.

Range up to 511 kilometers

The car comes with one battery pack, of 71.2 kWt. The type-approved WLTP figures show that the front-wheel drive model has a range of up to 511 kilometers on a fully charged battery, with a consumption of 14.5 kWt / 100 km. For four-wheel drive bZ4X, the official range is up to 466 kilometers, with a consumption of 16.0 kWt / 100 km.

Toyota also gives a very good warranty on the battery. Then offers an optional extended maintenance program for owners, which guarantees battery capacity of 70 percent after ten years, or one million kilometers driven.
