NEW YORK – Police are searching for a man who brutally attacked a 26-year-old pregnant woman with a Stillson wrench (or wrench) in the Bronx.
The authorities released a video this Friday of the incident, which occurred around 5:30 pm. of June 6. The victim was savagely struck in the head with the tool repeatedly before her executioner fled the scene in a silver BMW, authorities say.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the daylight incident, which occurred outside a Fordham Heights clothing store along a popular Grand Concourse shopping area.
The video shows the man and woman fighting in the middle of a street. She backs away as he pushes forward. The woman then appears to fall against a car, out of camera view.
The man’s arms are seen moving, and hers also seem to waver, as the fight continued. Passers-by move around her. Some appear to be trying to stop the man, although it is not clear from the poor quality of the video what is happening.
Finally, the man leaves. The victim suffered a severe laceration to the head and was taken to a hospital in stable condition after the attack.
There was no immediate update provided by the NYPD on Friday about her condition or that of the unborn baby.
It was also unclear how many months pregnant the woman was at the time of the attack in June, nor was it known whether police believed she knew her attacker. Authorities have not released information about the identity of any possible suspects.
Anyone with information about the attacker can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or in Spanish at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
