From July 5 to 13, in the State of Mexico, vaccines against Covid-19 will be applied to children aged 10 and 11 in 47 Mexican municipalities; Although no mishaps have been reported during vaccination days, it is important to remember that there are some mild side effects that are considered normal and that children may experience.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), after a safety review, it was determined that the Pfizer-brand Covid-19 vaccines applied to children aged 5 to 11 years can cause moderate and brief side effects in the body, such as:
- Throat pain
- Pain in the arm where the vaccine was given
- Headache
- Tos
- Fatigue
- Fever
- swollen lymph nodes
- Shaking chills
These side effects should disappear after a few days and rest, good nutrition and hydration are recommended for children who present these symptoms. If you seek to counteract these symptoms, it is suggested to request an analgesic that is not aspirin from the family doctor.
Some other tips that the CDC recommends to relieve pain in the area where the vaccine was applied are: apply a clean, cold and wet cloth to the area and use or exercise the arm, even if it represents a discomfort, since this way the recovery will be faster.
When should you go to a hospital?
In most cases, the discomfort of pain or fever represent normal symptoms because the body is creating the protection that the vaccine provides. Medical consultation should only be considered if:
- If irritation or tenderness at the injection site worsens after 24 hours
- If the side effects get worse or do not go away after a few days.
