JAKARTA – Scientists continue to discover diverse species unique animal . Not only is it unique in terms of shape, but also in its ability to evade predators. Well, here are some of them:
1. Eriovixia gryffindori
Spider species This is very unique because it has a body that resembles a magic hat in Harry Potter. Therefore, the inventor gave the name Eriovixia gryffindori. Gryffindor is one of the boarding houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series. JK Rowling didn’t just give her approval. But, also congratulate the research team.
These spiders are very small. Measuring only 7 mm, it is found in Karnataka, southwest India. It is brown in color and has an indentation on the top. Their shape and color help spiders blend in with dead leaves to avoid predators.
2. Geckolepis megalepis
Usually, geckos will drop their tails to escape and avoid danger or predators. But Geckolepis megalepis is different. It has fish-like scales, and can shed its skin and scales to escape danger naked.
Geckolepis megalepis scales are large and overlapping. So it can be released easily. After a few weeks, the scales grow back. And this is more effective than releasing a tail that can’t grow anymore.
3.Synalpheus pinkfloydi
The name Synalpheus pinkfloydi was inspired by the band Pink Floyd. Because, the inventor is a big fan of Pink Floyd. This new species of shrimp has giant pink claws that can kill their prey. Uniquely, its large claws can create powerful bubbles that explode and make a sound. The bubbles will electrocute or kill small fish, and the sound can reach 210 decibels (dB). Louder than gunshots.
4. Blue Tarantula
In an expedition to Guyana, the Biodiversity Survey team managed to find more than 30 new species. But nothing beats the beauty of this blue tarantula. This tarantula was found accidentally, at night, in the light of a flashlight. Generally blue tarantulas are found in Southeast Asia. This is the first colored tarantula in South America. This species lives in colonies.
5. Vangunu Big Rat
In the Solomon Islands, local people tell scientists about rats that live in trees and are able to crack coconuts. Then, scientists finally discovered a new species of large, elusive rat called the Vangunu giant rat.
It measures about 46cm from nose to tail. It weighs up to 1 kg. They are almost three to four times larger than the common brown rat. A giant rat was found when the loggers tried to cut down a tree, and the rat fell with him.
6. Small Pangolin
The silk pangolin was originally thought to be a species of Cyclopes Didactylus. But researchers now recognize seven species of these cute little pangolins. They studied all the small pangolins in Central and South America for 2 years. Then, to distinguish the species, they measured the skull and recorded the color of the fur. Finally, they were able to distinguish this little pangolin.
7. Eulophophyllum peel
Eulophophyllum kirki was accidentally discovered in Brunei, when researchers were hunting for snakes and spiders in Borneo. The female Eulophophyllum kirki has a unique pink hue that resembles a nearby tree. These insects can imitate leaves, thus avoiding dangerous predators. At first glance, it is difficult to distinguish from the leaves.

8. Pheidole viserion dan pheidole drogon
Pheidole viserion and pheidole drogon are named after the dragons in Game of Thrones. These ants are indeed unique, being in the genus Pheidole, namely ants with large heads. But both species have spikes protruding on their backs, like dragon spikes. That’s why they are called Drogon and Viserion. P. Viserion and P. Drogon were found in Papua New Guinea. Now, it is quite difficult to find new ant species, as there are already more than 12,000 individual species of ants.
