Ubisoft announces Pure Football

As the title would suggest, Ubisoft has officially tipped its hat to the ‘next-gen’ virtual soccer arena in the form of a new game called Pure Football. Rather than face the might of FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer directly, they decided to take a slightly different approach and built Pure Football around the 5v5 version of the beautiful game.

Pure Football will feature 230 footballers (including 17 legends) and 17 international teams. Players will be able to create their own customized athlete who can progress through campaign mode to compete with the best in the world. The game will also support local and online multiplayer, 4 vs 4 for the former and 1 vs 1 for the latter. At the moment, Pure Football is scheduled for a May 2010 release date for Xbox 360 and PS3. Oh and Steven Gerrard will be the “cover star”.

A quick look at the launch trailer (which can be seen below) and it appears that Ubisoft took inspiration from FIFA Street and SEGA Soccer Slam, particularly in terms of art style. Let’s just hope it turns out to be a decent 5v5 soccer game, something to complement FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer.
