Everton Cebolinha was, this Thursday, presented as a reinforcement of Flamengo. The Brazilian winger was signed by Fla to Benfica for 13.5 million euros (plus €2.5M in bonus) and, during the presentation, Everton explained why his spell at Luz did not live up to expectations, after the eagles have paid, in the summer of 2020, 20 million euros to Grêmio.
From the player’s point of view, Jorge Jesus bet on him in a position he was not used to playing.
«I was always used to playing more on the left side, but at Benfica I played other positions. The coach will tell you which position is best for me. Everyone knows I wasn’t used to being a midfielder and that was something that bothered me. In the last few seasons before Benfica I had scored 43 goals, it’s a lot for a winger. But it served as an apprenticeship and also to be able to evolve in the tactical part at the defensive level. The last two seasons have not been good on a collective level, but this also affects the individual. I’m focused on Flamengo», pointed out the Brazilian international, beaming at the opportunity to represent the carioca emblem.
“All players dream of wearing the Flamengo jersey. It is a very heavy jersey in Brazilian football and also in South America and I hope to be happy here.”
Everton’s debut for Flamengo can only happen after July 18, the day the transfer market opens in Brazil.
