A baby in India was born with a rare condition. This baby has four arms and four legs, and is therefore referred to as the reincarnation of God and compared to Lakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of fortune who has many arms.
The baby was born at Shahabad Public Health Centre, Uttar Pradesh. Both the mother (named Kareena) and the baby are currently in very good condition.

The cause of the appearance of the extra limbs in the baby is still a mystery so far. However, the baby’s condition is thought to be due to polymelia, a condition that causes extra limbs in humans, but cannot be used.
Polymelia is usually rare, and results from branching of development along the body axis and duplication of the lower limbs, producing five or more limbs. However, larger numbers are rarely seen.
This is not the first time the birth of a baby in India has caught the attention of many. Quoted from the Mirror, previously there was also another baby born with four hands and feet. The baby was hailed by local residents who thought the child was an incarnation of God.
