Peter Sagan did not experience the 5th stage of the 109th edition of the Tour de France according to his expectations. The challenging 157 kilometer route from Lille to Arenberg Porte du Hainaut featured several sections with erratic cobblestones. The Slovak cyclist found himself in front of them after falling to the ground.

“After I fell, I feel quite well. I have a bit of a bad hip on my butt. I don’t know if there was something on the road, but my bike “shot” me. Then my leg started to hurt, I must have hit a nerve somehow. Then they ripped me off… I said screw it,” said Sagan for RTVS.
He added on his Facebook: “It wasn’t the day I was hoping for, but racing on the pavé is always exciting. Congratulations Edvald (teammate Edvald Boasson Hagen note)he was so close to winning.”
