78,000 doses of anti-Covid vaccines have been applied to children between the ages of 5 and 11 in BC – El Sol de Tijuana

Tijuana.- The first consignment of pediatric anti-Covid-19 vaccines intended for children between 5 and 11 years of age in the state ran out earlier than expected, for which the Secretary of Health of Baja California, José Adrián Medina Amarillas, considered that this was a favorable response from the population.

At a press conference held in Mexicali, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda reported that so far 78,000 infants have received their first dose in the state.

“There was a need to take a break over the weekend because it sold out sooner than expected, but we have a commitment from the federal government to send us whatever is necessary,” the secretary stated.

Two batches of vaccines have arrived in Baja California, each with 54,000 doses for this age group and until this Wednesday there are seven days of vaccination.

The vaccination was temporarily stopped Saturday and Sunday of last week, because although the Ministry of Health expected a second batch to arrive in the state on Thursday, it did not arrive until Sunday night and began to be applied on Monday in all municipalities.

Of this second batch of biologicals from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, to date there are about 30,000 doses left in the entity, reported the Ministry of Health.

Baja California has a census of 344,000 boys and girls between 5 and 11 years of age, however, “a high percentage were vaccinated in the United States,” said Secretary Medina Amarillas.
