An off-duty New York City Police civilian employee who works in the department’s intelligence division was randomly attacked by a suspect inside a Manhattan subway, two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the case said. The attack occurred on Independence Day.
The 53-year-old New York City Police employee told authorities she had boarded a southbound Line 4 train at the station. Fulton Streetjust before 11:00 p.m., when a man she did not know and wearing ripped sweatpants and white sneakers somehow pushed her against a pole inside the subway, according to sources.
The woman said she wasn’t sure if he hit her or pushed her against the post, but says she suffered from swollen eyes and other pain, police sources said.
The suspected attacker fled while the woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the sources said. She is expected to be fine. No other details were available.
This case is one of the latest in a series of random attacks that have plagued the subway system in recent months. Those victims required 36 stitches and two surgeries, authorities said.
