NOS Newstoday, 01:42

The police have aimed and fired warning shots at farmers’ protests in the driveway of the A32 near Heerenveen. Police said the situation was imminent. A tractor was hit, no one was injured.

The police report on Twitter that the drivers of the tractors tried to drive into officers and service vehicles. A tractor who drove away from the incident has been arrested by police. Three suspects were also arrested.

Because shots were fired, the National Criminal Investigation Department will launch an independent investigation.

Different blockages

Earlier in the evening, farmers protested on a small scale at various distribution centers across the country. At least seven tractors stood for a few hours in front of a distribution center of the Albert Heijn in Geldermalsen. It was the third time in a week that the distribution center was blocked. After a conversation with the mayor, the farmers left. A distribution center of De Spar in Heerenveen was also briefly blocked.

Farmers also briefly blocked the A37 between Emmen and Hoogeveen, where they stood on the road with their tractors. Hay bales were set on fire on the A50. These were removed from the highway by Rijkswaterstaat with a crane and extinguished at another location so that the road could reopen as soon as possible.
