Rangers general manager Chris Drury made the announcement on Tuesday.
Gauthier has scored three goals and added four assists in 49 games this season, bringing his tally to five goals and 13 assists in 96 games with the Carolina Hurricanes and Rangers.
The Pointe-aux-Trembles skater played five games with the Hurricanes in 2019-20 before being traded to the Rangers on February 18, 2020. He had been the 21e total choice of the Canes in 2016.
