Rodions Kurucs will represent the Raptors in the NBA Summer League / Diena

“Sportsnet” reviewer Blake Murphy already reported that Kurucs was included in the squad of 15 basketball players for the start of the Summer League competition, which will take place from July 7 to 17 in the US city of Las Vegas.

“Kurucs joins the Raptors and will represent them in the NBA Summer League,” Baltic Sports Agency confirms.

The unit’s head coach will be Australian Trevor Gleeson, who is an assistant coach for the Raptors.

It has already been reported that the Serbian basketball club Belgrade “Partizan” chose not to continue cooperation with Kuruc.

Kurucs joined the ranks of “Partizan” last July, signing a two-year contract. However, he failed to win the trust of Željko Obradović, and the Latvian has not been on the field since the beginning of March.

In the Adriatic League, Kuruc averaged 4.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 14 matches. In the ULEB Eurocup, he averaged 3.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 steals in nine games.

From 2012 to 2015, Kurucs was in the “VEF Riga” system, but then spent three years under the auspices of the Spanish club “Barcelona”, also playing in the club’s second team in the lower leagues.

In 2018, the basketball player became the winner of the Spanish Cup in the Barcelona team.

In the summer of 2018, the representative of Latvia was chosen by the Brooklyn Nets with the 40th pick in the NBA draft. After two seasons in the Brooklyn team, Kurucs was traded to the Houston Rockets in January 2021 and to the Milwaukee Bucks in March, from which Kurucs was released in the first half of May.

In a total of 131 games in the world’s strongest league, Kuruc played an average of 16 minutes per match, during which he scored six points and grabbed 3.1 rebounds.

In 2014, Kurucs became the vice-champion of European cadets with the Latvian U-16 national team, but in November 2017, he made his debut in the Latvian national team, participating in the 2019 World Cup qualification games.
