400 government accounts
The Federal Government is represented with more than 400 accounts on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & Co. This emerges from a government response to a request from the AfD parliamentary group, which the Bundestag published on Monday. The Federal Ministry of the Interior operates a particularly large number of accounts: well over a hundred. This also includes the social media pages of the Federal Agency for Civic Education, such as the Facebook account of Kinofenster.de or the YouTube channel Abdelkratie, on which comedian Abdelkarim, in his own words, “celebrates” German democracy. The Ministry of Defense mainly distributes Bundeswehr content with more than 50 accounts. The Ministry of Health has more than 30 accounts and can be found on TikTok with “KarlText” clips, among other things: Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) announces in it, for example, that monkeypox “will not trigger a pandemic”. The federal government explains that it sees social media “as a modern extension of its public relations work”.
