After the dismissal of the Jáchal judge, Javier Alonso, for having delayed more than 500 criminal and civil cases, the Judicial Power launched a new contest to find his replacement. Once the registration and interview stages were completed, the Council of the Judiciary prepared the short list from which the future magistrate of the Second Judicial District will emerge. A civil lawyer, a judicial official of the stick and a Cordovan, of those three, will replace the questioned and thrown judge Alonso.
HUARPE DAILY spoke with the lawyers Domingo Daniel Castro, María Paula Páez and Juan Ramón Zallio, the candidates to stay with the seat of judge of first instance who will attend the causes that originate in the departments of Jáchal and Iglesia.

Lawyer Domingo Daniel Castro, 49, dedicated himself to civil and labor matters for more than 25 years, working privately and for the State. He is a married man and has two daughters.
He studied Law at the Catholic University of Cuyo, where he graduated in February 1997. He has been practicing law in the province for 25 years and worked for a time at a public bar association in Morón, Buenos Aires.
Since 2005 he has been working in the State. He first participated as a legal advisor to the Provincial Housing Institute (IPV), then, in 2015, he moved to the Department of Architecture of the Ministry of Public Works, where he currently works.
On the other hand, in the Foro de Abogados, he fulfilled the role of secretary of the Board of Directors between 2011 and 2013.
The professional also advised unions and for more than 20 years, with an impasse in the middle, he works as a lawyer for the College of Architects.
Castro also has his own law firm with his wife María del Carmen Gimeno. It is located on General Paz street, in Capital. He is dedicated above all to civil, labor, family and administrative issues (procedures in Anses, Afip).
It is not the first time that Castro has appeared in a judicial power contest. He was always expectant with the vacancies that could be generated in the civil and labor courts, especially. As for what is to come, with the designation in Deputies, the lawyer said that it will be “a difficult step.” He took the process of this new contest well, although he knows that he has a long way to go.
Castro is married to a lawyer, with whom he has two daughters, ages 21 and 18.
A judicial officer of the stick
Lawyer María Paula Páez, 40, is a purebred jachallera. Currently, she is a civil secretary in the Second Judicial Circuit, a teacher and the mother of a girl.
The professional, who is looking for a promotion, is the third time that she has been shortlisted to be a judge. Previously, she fell by the wayside with the appointments of Javier Alonso and Eduardo Vega, with whom she shared a shortlist. This opportunity may be the charm.
Born in San José de Jáchal, she studied at the Normal School, then in 2000 she went to study Law at the National University of Córdoba, where she graduated in 2005. There she did a master’s degree in Law and Argumentation. The professional not only has these two university degrees. A few years ago she studied and became a professor of Legal Sciences.
The lawyer returned to her hometown in 2008 after being appointed departmental delegate of the Directorate for Consumer Protection for Jáchal and Iglesia. In parallel, she devoted herself to teaching. She became a teacher at the Cornelio Saavedra Agrotechnical School in Rodeo.
Páez has been a civil secretary since 2017, after winning the contest for that position. In 2018, she applied to be a judge for Jáchal. She was shortlisted for the first time with Javier Alonso and Gustavo Berreta. Precisely on that occasion she got the job the now dismissed Alonso, who had just been criminal secretary.
But the lawyer did not give up. She competed again and ended up trio for the second time with Eduardo Vega and again Gustavo Berreta. The deputies finally appointed Vega. Is the third time will be the charm? The lawyer replied to this medium: “It will be what it has to be.”
The lawyer is in a relationship with Miguel Ruíz. She defined her family as a blended family. She lives with the man, along with his 18-year-old son and her seven-year-old girl.
A Cordovan
Lawyer Juan Ramón Zallio, 51, is from Ledesma, a town in Córdoba. He spent his entire career on the street as a private attorney after having a frustrated passage through the Judiciary of his native province.
He fell in love with a woman from San Juan and came to live in the province, where he raised a family. He knows Jáchal because he set up a law firm there that remained open until 2017. However, he continues to have cases in that department to which he travels from time to time.
Zallio studied at the National University of Córdoba. He also did a master’s degree in Labor, Business and Trade Union Law.
Later, he went to work at an important study there and as a university student he entered the Judiciary of Córdoba through an internship. He was promoted to meritorious, the first position in the Cordovan justice ladder, but he did not stay due to an Emergency Law launched by the governor of that time, which determined that people could not be appointed to permanent staff in any of the three branches of government. State for four years. This happened after the crisis of 2001. Zallio works without receiving a salary and only received a per diem for the collective transfer. “I could not exercise my true vocation,” said the professional.
The lawyer devoted himself fully to the private part. He came to San Juan for the first time in 2003 after meeting a woman from San Juan. He settled permanently in 2004 and set up a law firm in the Capital and another in Jáchal. The one in the City of San Juan continues to function.
The Cordovan did not hold any public office. He once presented himself in the contest of the Judicial Power for the same position, but he did not get to be nominated. “I have already practiced half of my profession on the street, now I would like to be on the other side of the counter”, he pointed out.
The man married the woman from San Juan and later divorced. He is currently in a relationship. On the other hand, he is the father of two girls aged 12 and 10. If elected, Zallio said that he will move with his family to Jáchal.
Designation
In addition to the short list of judges from Jáchal, the Council of the Magistrature formed the list for Family Judge, Justice of the Peace of Pocito and six First Instance Prosecutor positions. The nine officials will be elected, it is assumed, in the first half of August.
