Several students from the University of Paris 8 gathered this Wednesday afternoon in front of the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis in Bobigny to demand the regularization of 23 undocumented students enrolled in this faculty of Saint-Denis. “We have been fighting for more than a year for the regularization of 32 Haitian, Senegalese and Algerian students, most of whom have been studying for several years at Paris 8 and are finishing their license or their master 1, but they do not ‘cannot regularize their situations,’ describes Mary, an Ecuadorian student who took part in the mobilization.
“With the help of the university that accompanied them, she continues, we managed to obtain the regularization of nine people, but it still gets stuck for 23 others without knowing why. Some have even just received an obligation to leave French territory. »
“They have excellent records”
“They have excellent files and some are waiting for their regularization to be able to register for a master’s or a thesis. But without papers, they are deprived of freedom, their chances are very limited, point out the student organization Unef, the teachers’ union Sud Éducation 93 or the New Anti-Capitalist Party in a joint press release. They live in fear of controls and repression. They must have the right to study freely, to study and to graduate like all students,”
At the end of their mobilization, the demonstrators were not received in the prefecture as they wished. Contacted this Wednesday, the prefecture did not answer our questions, the university was not able to answer them within the time allowed.
