Xiaomi has this afternoon presented the flagship 12S Ultra which offers an impressive camera solution on paper, as well as plenty of performance.
The 12S Ultra is namely first out with Sony’s new IMX989 with 50.3MP and a sensor size of a full 1 ″. When four pixels are combined into a single, the pixel size becomes 3.2µm, which is the largest pixel size in a smartphone.
Xiaomi is collaborating with Leica, which is said to have contributed its expertise to both the optics and the software. The Camera app includes a collection of Leica modes that attempt to recreate images taken with Leica cameras.
Other rear cameras are a 48MP super wide angle camera and a 48MP telephoto lens with up to 120x zoom. The phone can record Dolby Vision HDR, as well as 10-bit h265. Flagship components are also offered in other respects.
The device has a 6.73-inch screen (1-120Hz / 1440 x 3200), Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, and a 4860mAh battery with 67W charge. Xiaomi will not sell the phone outside China, but locally the top model (12GB / 512GB) costs the equivalent of SEK 10,790.
