A young man from Offenbach was injured in a train accident in southern Hesse on Saturday (July 2nd). In Dieburg, a train throws him to the side.
Dieburg/Offenbach – An 18-year-old from Offenbach was hit by a Hessian State Railway (HLB) train in Dieburg in southern Hesse on Saturday evening (July 2nd). As a result of the collision, the young man suffered significant injuries in the head area, as the federal police announced on Monday (July 4).
According to previous investigations, the 18-year-old and a 24-year-old companion walked from a nearby level crossing on the tracks in the direction of Dieburg train station. The police assume that the two pedestrians wanted to “shorten” the way to their destination.
Train accident in Dieburg: injured man from Offenbach was drunk
At around 11 p.m., an HLB train pulled into the area. The engine driver recognized the two people on the track and immediately initiated emergency braking. However, this could no longer prevent the 18-year-old from being touched by the train and thrown to the side. His companion was able to leave the danger area in time and remained unharmed.
The 18-year-old from Offenbach had to be taken to the clinic in Groß-Umstadt due to head injuries. The train driver suffered a shock from the accident in Dieburg and had to stop working. A total of six trains were delayed by the end of the mission at around 1 a.m. on Sunday (3 July).
An alcohol concentration of 1.6 per thousand was found in the 18-year-old Offenbacher and his 24-year-old companion. The Federal Police Inspectorate is now investigating the dangerous intervention in rail traffic.
Just a few weeks ago, a fatal rail accident occurred in the region: near Münster, a train driver died when two freight trains collided. (tk)
