Researcher from the BRIN Space Research Center (LAPAN), Andi Pangeran, firmly denied that the aphelion phenomenon could make the Earth very cold.
Processed from his official statement, Monday (4/7/2022), Andi explained that the aphelion phenomenon is a condition in which the Earth has the furthest distance from the Sun.
“Earth reaches its furthest distance from the Sun on July 4, 2022 with a distance of 152,098,455 Km. Since 1800, the occurrence of the aphelion phenomenon in the last 200 years has always taken place in July,” said Andi.
He emphasized that Aphelion had no impact on the increase or decrease in temperature on the Earth’s surface. However, climatological or climatic factors play a major role in temperature changes.
“The intensity of the sun varies, between 1,321.5 W/m2 at Aphelion or approximately 3.4% of the average (1,366 W/m2),” he explained.
So, continued Andi, the effective temperature on the Earth’s surface will only vary by approximately 2.4 degrees Celsius from the average (15 degrees Celsius).
