Two men were fatally stabbed in separate incidents in Queens and Harlem Friday night and early today. the NYPD said.
A 35-year-old man was fatally attacked inside a building in the 3400 block of Broadway near West 139th Street. The victim, who received two stab wounds to the chest and one to the neck Last night shortly after 11 pm, he was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The police officers they detained a 61-year-old man at the scene and recovered a knife. Charges are pending and “the investigation is ongoing,” he reported. New York Post.
Hours later, around 3:10 am today, a 32-year-old man was stabbed in the head multiple times and his 32-year-old girlfriend suffered cuts to her arm left during a dispute at the corner of 98th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Corona, Queens.
Both victims were transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead and the woman is in stable condition, authorities said. A 20-year-old suspect was taken into custody with an unknown object outside of 38-27 98th Street. Charges against him were pending.
According to Daily News, the confrontation began in a party room and spread to the street. During the fight, the younger man pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed his opponent in the head. The victim’s girlfriend was cut on the arm as she tried to break up the fight, police said.
Hours earlier, also in Harlem yesterday, a teenager was shot dead in broad daylight, causing chaos on sidewalks and streets. Those three homicides in a few hours at the beginning of the month and the long holiday of Independence Day, confirm the Expert fears that New York is going to experience a spike in violence this summer, both with firearms and white.
In 2022, at the end of June there were 197 homicides in the city, compared to 226 in the same period in 2021, for a drop of 12.8%. Total, 747 people had been shot so far this year in NYC, compared to 817 at this time in 2021, which represents a decrease of 8.6%. but still the figures are much higher than NYC crime even before the pandemic.
