Exponav hosted on Thursday the presentation of the book by sailors Bartolom Cnovas and Ral Villa La mujer en la mar: Historias de sueños fulfilled. They were accompanied by the admiral of Arsenal, Ignacio Frutos, and the Minister of the Sea, Rosa Quintana. The authors unraveled the contents of a book that brings to the fore the role played by many women. Bartolom Cnovas lamented that in the recent celebration of the 450th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, for example, no reference had been made to María la Bailaora, a notable figure in this military episode. Rál Villa, for his part, recalled the first female captain of the Merchant Navy in the 1980s, Mercedes Marrero. While in the Navy, later, only four have served —so far— as ship commanders. Both authors signed copies of a book that was conceived during a meal in a restaurant and after three and a half years of work they have managed to make it essential to analyze the role of women and the sea.
