During this long Canada Day weekend, the police monitor speed and any risky behavior, such as distracted driving and compliance with the Highway Safety Code.
Sergeant Nancy Fournier, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, points out that drivers should not just reduce their speed.
« One of the frequent causes of collisions, serious injuries and fatal accidents is really the driver. What we ask of people is to take responsibility. When we decide to hit the road, we are responsible for our safety and that of all the people we will encounter. »
The police are on the lookout for any risky behavior.
So what we ask of you is not to exceed the speed limit, not to do dangerous overtaking, to always keep your eyes on the road, not to get distractedadds Sergeant Fournier.
Throughout the weekend, police officers will be carrying out operations, either stationed at the roadside or by circulating on the road network.

Nancy Fournier also recalls security measures during this moving period.
“When transporting equipment, it’s about securing the objects to the vehicle. Make sure it won’t go upwind and cause a collision with a vehicle following you. It’s very important to get everything right,” she insists.
When a trailer is attached to a vehicle, the load must not obscure the lights or headlights, and must not reduce visibility.
