Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a curious sneer at Western leaders on Thursday. Putin said those leaders would look “horrible” if they showed themselves bare-chested in public like him.
Putin made the statement on Thursday during a visit to the Central Asian country of Turkmenistan. He was responding to previous comments made by some Western leaders who ridiculed him during the G7 summit in Germany.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson joked that the G7 leaders might take off their clothes “to show that we are stronger than Putin”.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also joked about the Russian president. He proposed to “sit bare-chested on a horse”, citing a photo of Putin bare-chested on a horse in Siberia.
The Russian president was not pleased and sneered back at the leaders. He also said that unlike him, Western leaders drink alcohol excessively and do not exercise.
“I don’t know if they want to undress above or below their hips, but I think it would look awful either way,” Putin said.
