I have worked with all operating systems myself (my previous work laptop was a Macbook, I ran Manjaro on my current work laptop for a while, but now Windows 11 is on it again).
All operating systems have their own issues and flaws – I didn’t get to be as productive on Mac OS as I did on Windows, and needed a lot of tools to do the most basic things (eg window snapping). My Mac also couldn’t handle my superultrawide screen, which also made it quite inconvenient. My Mac would also sometimes randomly reboot for patches that could take 45 minutes to install.
At Manjaro I always had to fiddle around a lot to get certain things going. Zoom regularly crashed (an issue that all my colleagues on Linux also experience), battery drained very quickly, I had problems with drivers and features of the laptop not working.
So I have certainly used other operating systems, more than enough. The reason I’m positive about Windows 11 now has little to do with stockholm syndrome.
The new Windows Terminal, which has been around for more than 3 years, also works perfectly and is extremely practical to use. So directly open tabs in PowerShell, my WSL Linux or whatever I want.
I don’t have any problems with Office upsells myself (I don’t think I’ve seen anything other than the request to start a trial). I also don’t see any Candy Crush or Netflix pre-installed on my PC… on Windows 10 that was indeed the case, but on Windows 11 there is nothing more to see.
Windows updates are no longer the monstrosity they once were.
I take from your response that you haven’t worked with Windows for a long time, and certainly not Windows 11 yet. Completely understandable, given your bad experiences, but sometimes it is necessary to see if something has improved or not: sometimes things can change and improve effectively.
