De satisfaction, but misunderstanding too. A large crowd of civil parties and lawyers attended the verdict of the November 13 trial on Wednesday, at this end point given to an extraordinary hearing, one of the longest criminal hearings ever known in France. Unsurprisingly, very heavy sentences were pronounced against the main defendants – against Salah Abdeslam in particular, sentenced to irreducible life imprisonment, as required by the Advocates General.
Other defendants, in particular those whom the prosecution had described as “small hands”, receive light sentences. “Correct sentences, which show humanity”, estimates Xavier Nogueras, counsel for Mohamed Amri, sentenced to eight years in prison and who could be released within ten days…
