Another farmer’s protest on A37, tractors towards Zwartemeer

A farmer’s protest was held for the second time tonight on the A37. Tractors drove onto the highway near Nieuw-Amsterdam and set course for Zwartemeer. Supporters of the action also blocked the highway for some time.

Protesters had gathered again in a parking lot off the A37, where riot police were also present. Photos show officers blocking the driveway. It is unclear how tractors got onto the highway. This may have happened via one of the outside roads.

Earlier tonight, the A37 at the Holsloot junction was completely blocked by activists. The police handed out several fines, including for turning on the highway. Several police vans came to the traffic intersection, after which officers started talking with the demonstrators. “There was no need to intervene and force,” said a police spokesman. It is not clear how the police will now enforce.

Yesterday, farmers also demonstrated in several places in and around Drenthe against the cabinet’s nitrogen plans. For example, the Lankhorst junction was blocked for hours, and farmers drove from the A28 near Beilen to Hoogeveen last night. Later in the evening another group of tractors drove on the A37.
