The cinema. Australian director Bez Luhrmann’s musical film is released on Latvian cinema screens Elviss, dedicated to the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley. Critics consider this to be Bez Luhrmann’s best film since Romeo and Juliet (1996). Elvis is played by the so far little-known American actor Austin Butler – he does not imitate the musician, but offers a much more nuanced embodiment of the character. Austin Butler delivers a perfect performance of Elvis Presley’s songs, and the musical numbers, in which Bez Luhrmann demonstrates a master class in the art of editing, are the film’s greatest assets. The singer’s manager Tom Parker is played by Tom Hanks. Bez Luhrmann, in his impressive work permeated with carnivalesque, eroticism and the artistic vulgarity of Las Vegas, does not feel the pressure of nostalgia and does everything to bring Elvis back to life and show what he was in his time and what he means now, 45 years after his death.

Solo. Tonight in the Klavierstästi concert series in the cultural space Hansa platform pianist Dainis Tenis will perform, who will present his debut solo album Decoder program. At the concert, Dainis will perform original works for the piano, in which he has combined the genres closest to him – neoclassical, ambient and electronic music. The instrument of piano builder Dāvidas Kļaviņas will create a special mood a rope. The acoustic environment will be complemented by the sounds of analog synthesizers and drum machine rhythms.

Festival. The 22nd International Festival of Improvisation, Jazz and Global Music will continue until July 2 Rhythms of Riga. Tonight, in the garden of the Riga Cathedral, one of its brightest concerts will take place, in which five jazz legends will meet on one stage: together Modern Standards Supergroup will feature drummer Billy Cobham, trumpeter Randy Brecker, saxophonist Bill Evans, bassist Lynley Mart and pianist Niels Lan Dockey.
