Former Justice Minister Fred Teeven chairman of the beer brewers’ club | NOW

Fred Teeven, former public prosecutor, Fiod detective and State Secretary for Justice, was appointed the new chairman of Nederlandse Brouwers this week. This has been announced by the interest group of beer brewers.

The members of Nederlandse Brouwers account for 95 percent of beer production in the Netherlands, including the big boys like Heineken and AB InBev. “I am committed to ensuring that everyone can continue to enjoy a good glass of beer,” says Teeven.

After his departure from politics, the former minister started working as a bus driver. “He has a broad experience. In the phase we are in as a beer sector, we can use that very well,” said Nederlandse Brouwers.

In his new position at the brewers, Teeven focuses directly on his former colleagues in The Hague. He will focus on how to implement the so-called Prevention Agreement, which is intended to prevent alcohol abuse.

“The discussion should not turn to how we can make it as difficult as possible for the Dutch to enjoy a nice glass of beer. That is a kind of gossip that I don’t feel at home with,” says Teeven.

He wants, for example, that the large doubling of the consumer tax for non-alcoholic beer, which is planned for next year, should be canceled again.
