China’s unmanned spacecraft has recorded images of all parts of Mars, including the planet’s south pole. The images were obtained after circling Mars more than 1,300 times since the start of last year. Among the images recorded is a photo of Mars’ south pole, where all the planet’s water sources are converging.
In 2018, an orbiter operated by the European Space Agency discovered water beneath the ice sheet of Mars’ south pole. Finding water below the surface is key to determining whether a planet is habitable, as well as providing a sustainable resource for exploration there.
