– Direct contact with infectious rashes, sores, or body fluids
– Respiratory secretions during prolonged face-to-face contact, or during intimate physical contact, such as kissing, hugging, or having sex
– Touching items (such as clothing) that previously touched an infectious rash or infected body fluids
– Pregnant people can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta

People may also get monkeypox from infected animals, either by being scratched or bitten by the animal or by preparing or eating meat or using products from infected animals.
Monkeypox can spread from the moment symptoms begin until the rash heals completely and a new layer of skin forms. The disease usually lasts 2-4 weeks. People who have no symptoms of monkeypox cannot spread the virus to other people. At this time, it is not known whether monkeypox can be spread through semen or vaginal fluids.
Is monkeypox dangerous?
