Since Hugh Jackman has returned the claws, Marvel fans have been wondering who could embody the next version of the X-Men. Many names have been mentioned, including Pablo Schreiber, but also Daniel Radcliffe. What if the character was played by someone who already knows the MCU very well?
Who will be the next Wolverine? The list of candidates is growing
It’s already been more than 5 years what Logan, Wolverine’s latest adventure, has been released in theaters. Some fans find the time particularly long, especially since links with the X-Men are regularly made in the MCU, and in particular in Dr Strange in the Multivers of Madness. Rumors are therefore numerous, and other names have been mentioned after those of Pablo Schreiber (Halo) et Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). The first is none other that Antony Starr, the Protector in The Boys.
The latter has openly announced his interest in the character last year, without indicating whether discussions were then underway or not. The second name recently mentioned is Karl Urban, who also plays in The Boys. You may know him better as Butcher, Éomer in The Lord of the Rings of Peter Jackson, or of Leonard McCoy in Star Strek by JJ Abrams. With traits as severe as they are mischievous, he could indeed correspond to recent physical interpretations of the character. Recently asked about it by The Guardian, Karl Urban said he was flatteredbut that wouldn’t make too much sense due to its age:
Me as Wolverine? Really ? It’s gratifying but you have to think about it with hindsight. I’m two years younger than Hugh Jackman, right? If I was the studio in charge of finding a new Wolverine, I would choose an actor who could do at least three films. And you won’t get three Wolverine movies starring Karl Urban unless you want to see a 65-year-old Wolverine
What if Wolverine was played by Captain America?
Where things get very interesting, is when the Russo Brothers themselves give a name. The producers d’Avengers : Endgame were indeed interviewed by Comicbook, and have rquickly declared their love for Chris Evanswhom all MCU viewers know as Steve Rogers, alias Captain America. The character is no longer present in the current script arc, and can therefore completely embody a new hero, even if the thing might seem strange to fans:
Chris has an incredible presence and great physical shape. He is also excellent in controlling his body. Also, and I’m not saying this meanly, but he has nothing to do with Captain America. Steve Rogers is always in control, calm and discreet. Chris is dynamic, funny and charismatic, he brings a lot of energy to the set. That’s why I would love to see him play Wolverine.
For his part Chris Evan has indicated that he would like to become The Human Torch again of the Fantastic 4, a role he took on in The Fantastic Four (2005) et Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer (2007).
