NEW YORK – The Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, signed this Sunday, the day the LGTBQ+ Pride parade is celebrated in the Big Apple, the Gender Inclusive Voting Law that allows people who do not identify with a binary gender to run for political office.
The legislation requires political parties to change their rules to allow people who do not identify as female or male to be elected to party office.
“This landmark legislation ensures non-binary New Yorkers can fully participate in our democratic system and that the state’s political parties have the opportunity to truly be a reflection of the state’s diversity,” Hochul said in a statement.
