In an interview for Le Quotidien du Sport, Christophe Pignol returned to his involvement in the Collectif Nantais.
The former player who worked for FC Nantes from 1993 to 1997 explains the origin of his arrival in the Collectif Nantais project.
“Micka (Landreau), whom I really appreciate, told me about the project from the start, and asked me if I was interested in participating in a think tank on the club. I was immediately enthusiastic (…) It is made up of former players, trainers, entrepreneurs… We talk about the evolution of the club. About what we would like to do with it… We write a lot…”
“We saw, for example, what happened in Bordeaux. Gérard Lopez arrived to buy the club, then he did anything. »
The crowfunding campaign “Fédérons sur le Collectif Nantais” ended on May 24 and in eleven weeks it reached 1,728 subscribers and 259,000 euros. For his part, on March 8, Mickaël Landreau explained that if Waldemar Kita sold “the club for 20-25 million euros tomorrow”, the Nantes Collective would be “ready”. Christophe Pignol, he was undecided when the journalist Stéphane Désenclos asked him if the Collectif Nantais could one day become the owner of FC Nantes.
“(Smile) that, I don’t know! We know very well that it takes a lot of money today to buy a club like FC Nantes, but our thoughts can also be of use to a future buyer (…) A buyer can arrive and put us aside, but he can also rely on our work and our proposals to apply them. We saw, for example, what happened in Bordeaux. Gérard Lopez arrived to buy the club, then he did anything. »
“I don’t think Nantes fans see themselves winning the Champions League either…”
Christophe Pignol specifies that the subjects of reflection of the Collectifs Nantais are vast and that their research could really be useful for a future buyer.
“The training, the child, the social role of the club, etc… values that the club has long conveyed and which have been somewhat flouted in recent years. The show too, the game… If the club has just had a very good season, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a show at the stadium (…) Be careful, we are well aware that only the results can validate such a project. But I don’t think the Nantes supporters see themselves winning the Champions League either…”
