Tragedy at the Bernina Pass on Saturday afternoon. At around 3 p.m. there was a fatal accident between two mopeds on the popular excursion route. Three people are dead.
As the Graubünden canton police said to Blick, the casualties were a 46-year-old from the canton of Graubünden and two people († 57, † 58) from the canton of Zurich.
What exactly happened is not yet clear. The Graubünden cantonal police are looking for witnesses, as she writes in a statement.
Hours of lockdown
Because of the rescue work, both train and road traffic had to be stopped. The road was closed until 6:15 p.m. Even after the closure was lifted, there were still traffic problems as a long traffic jam had formed.
The train line of the Rhaetian Railway was also interrupted between Morteratsch and Bernina Suot. A Blick reader said on Saturday afternoon: “Nothing works here anymore.” The Bernina Pass connects the Engadin in the north with the Puschlav and the Italian Veltlin in the south. (zis/vof)
